Jim, is the driver experimental when used with the ESXi OS or does that include all guest OSs that ESXi supports?
I'm only talking about the native driver for vmxnet3 as a "physical" NIC in ESXi 5.1 running as a guest.
Usually, you would install VMware Tools in the guest to get a vmxnet3 driver, but there are no VMware Tools for ESXi. With ESXi 5.1, you don't need to install VMware Tools to get a vmxnet3 driver, because the OS ships with a vmxnet3 driver. This is the vmxnet3 driver that's experimental.
When you're running a typical guest under ESXi 5.1, you would install the vmxnet3 driver as part of VMware Tools. These vmxnet3 drivers are fully supported and completely functional.
