Re: trouble installing vm tools

As I've already told you, "Have a look at "Manually Install or Upgrade VMware Tools in a Linux Virtual Machine" starting on page 28 in Getting Started with VMware Player (PDF)." and these directions work in Ubuntu, I know because I've used these same directions more times then I can remember.  So you really should be able to if you'd just follow the directions as written.

 

That said if running Ubuntu with a Desktop then the VMware Tools ISO Image that is automatically assigned to the CD/DVD when selecting Install VMware Tools will normally appear on the Desktop.  You could skip the steps involving mounting the CDROM if that happens and you can also skip the command line extraction of the .tar.gz file and instead extract its contents using Archive Manager from the GUI and then switch to a Terminal to process the actual installation.

 

Bottom line is you need to lean how to use Linux and follow directions!
