Re: I have installed app volume manager and connect with remote database, but after accessing the app manager error "startup failure" unable to start app volumes manager
Re: DEM + Writable App Volumes
hi Shreyskar
and thanks, thats what i am willing to use :
writable volumes for profile and DEM to manage appdata
BUT in this case in the DEM policy i leave the profile archive path blank ? and DEM will be able to apply changes to the writable volume profile ??
Re: DEM + Writable App Volumes
Hi ahmad090
Answering to your queries:
I want to store user profiles on writable volumes while controlling them using DEM.
> This is not possible through DEM as DEM GPO only accepts UNC path of file server for profile repository. You can't use writable volume path in profile archive location and this makes sense because when you use profile based writable, it already captures your %appdata% so no need to again capture the same thing using DEM.
Usually we used to specify file server path on the DEM GPO, but in case of writable volumes what path/argument do we use in this case ?
> Same answer as above. DEM doesn't manage anything on writable except giving you an option to redirect your outlook OST file to writable (DEM manager > user environment > AppVolumes)

Error: Module 'Monitor' power on failed. Failed to start the virtual machine.
Hello,
So I have been trying to create virtual machine with VMware workstation 15 pro and was not able to power it on.
Here is the message I get when i use "power on this virtual machine":
This virtual machine failed to switch to 64 bit mode. This failure might be due to a lack of available memory on the host.
Module 'Monitor' power on failed.
Failed to start the virtual machine.
I am using:
- Ubuntu LTS 18.04 iso
My computer has:
- 16Gb RAM
- More than 100Gb of free space (hard disk)
- an asrock phantom Bios
I have tried:
- Rebooting
- Keeping the default parameters while creating the vm
- Limiting the RAM to 250mb
- limiting the hard disk to 1Gb
- Checking that SVM and SMT are enabled for virtualization in the Bios
- Using VMware workstation Player 15, same issue
- Using virtualbox with the same configuration, it is working
Here is my vmware.log file:

Re: DEM + Writable App Volumes
hi,
okay got you point, thanks
i misread this part:
The best way to utilize writable and DEM both is to use UIA only writable (to manage user installed apps) along with DEM (which will manager user appdata or profile in general).
Re: Failed to delete VM - Failed to resolve id of disk
Hi vivekrishna
If persistent disk VMDK is not present in actual datastore, you can not retrieve it unless you have a backup of persistent disks. You can import the backup and then in horizon view you can recreate VM using persistent disk itself.
Please check : Restore a Linked Clone by Importing a Persistent Disk from vSphere
Horizon view might be showing the corresponding entry in View admin page because it might have an entry in AD LDS database.
Missing java.exe during Horizon 7.x upgrade
Hi to all,
we're trying to upgrade our Horizon server from rel. 6.2.9. to 7.x (tried so far 7.3.2 and 7.5) but during the upgrade the error we got the error:
windows cannot find 'c:\program files\vmware\vmware view\server\jre\bin\java.exe' .Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.
We checked the folder "c:\program files\vmware\vmware view\server\" during the upgrade and this is what happens:
- the installer/upgrade removes the old version of files and folders
- then it creates again the programs folder but the java.exe executable is actually missing in "c:\program files\vmware\vmware view\server\jre\bin\java.exe"
- if we click "ok" on the error, the installer continues till the end saying the installation/upgrade has completed succesfully, but the server is basically broken/not working
We managed to rollback to the previous snapshot (which is working fine) and tried to upgrade from 6.2.9 to 7.5 but we got the exact same behavior, so I guess there might be something wrong in the current server configuration.
Does someone have some hints to troubleshoot this issue?
Thanks
Maio
Lost Shard folder mount after reboot
VMWare 15.5.2 build-15785246
Base OS: Windows 10 Pro x86
Virtual OS: CentOS-8.1.1911-x86_64
I create shared folder mapping under VMware (Virtual Machine Settings/Options/Shared Folders):
Always enabled, Name: git, Host path: c:/git
Under CentOS it allowed /mnt/hgfs/git and all ok
But when i reboot my Virtual Machine and load CentOS again mount point (mnt/hgfs/git) are lost.
I need disable Virtual Machine Settings/Options/Shared Folders and enable again manually.
It's possible to do this automaticly mount after virtual machine reboot, because i set "Always enabled"?
Shared iPads for Business - Temporary Session
Has anyone started experimenting with Shared iPads for Business with VMware Workspace ONE? I did find a setting below in the shared SaaS for 'Temporary Session', but there doesn't seem to be any detailed 'How To' guide on the setup just yet. I'm anxious to adopt this setup for my users to communicate with their loved ones using an app of their choices, such as WhatsApp and WeChat, without risking privacy.
Re: Adding vCenter instance to vRO8.1 looks unhealthy
Hi,
What the error says is that vRO is trying to communicate with vCenter server instance passing CSP tokens for authentication. Unfortunately, vCenter cannot work with this type of token, hence the calls will fail.
vRO server can be configured with two distinct types of authentication - vSphere (SAML tokens) or vRA (CSP tokens). When you execute the workflow 'Add vCenter server instance, there is an option to choose to use either 'session-per-user' or 'shared session' mode. In the former case, vRO will use authentication tokens that match the vRO server authentication configuration, and if the vRO is configured with vRA authentication (CSP tokens), it will not be able to communicate with vCenter.
The fix is easy - in deployments where vRO is configured with vRA authentication, you'll need to add the vCenter server instance using 'shared session' mode.
Re: Editing a service logon for a new app stack
Hi cjuan1991
Can't you workaround it by configuring the service account to run via GPO "logon as a service" under Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment?
Ensure that the user which you have added above is not listed in the ‘Deny log on as a service’ policy in the Local Security Policy.
Re: AppVolume 4.0 Provisioning Problem
Hi MattVicos
This was a known issue in App Volumes 4.0.0 and have been fixed in 4.0.1.
If you are facing this issue, please Download VMware App Volumes 4.0.1 again and reinstall from a new ISO. For reference, the corrected ISO for 4.0.1 is named VMware_App_Volumes_v401_20200402.ISO.

Not note: after installing CentOS 8, i update to last (update kernel) by
sudo yum update
Re: Missing java.exe during Horizon 7.x upgrade
Hi Readonlymaio
This issue occurs due to Incompatible Java code that appears after upgrading from VMware View 6.2.9 to VMware View 7.5.3.
To upgrade 6.2.9 to 7.5.3, please follow below instructions. Rather than doing in-place upgrade, you can perform a clean uninstallation and re-installation using existing ADAM database.
VMware Product Interoperability Matrices
> Take a backup of ADAM database on existing connection servers (See VMware Knowledge Base ).
> Take a snapshot of existing connection servers.
> Uninstall existing connection server from programs and features.
> Delete 'VMware VDM' reg hive from below location on connection server:
HKLM\Software\VMware\VMware VDM
If delete operation fails, right click reg hive > permissions > advanced > check the box 'replace all child object permission...' > Try to delete it now.
> Rename or delete the folder C:\Program files\VMware\VMware View
> Open certificate manager (local machine) and delete all certs from 'VMware horizon view certificates' location. These will be recreated during installation. Do not delete any cert from 'Personal' store.
> Reboot
> Install connection server 7.5.3 as a replica with existing ADAM database. During installation it will automatically pickup the installed AD LDS database.
> Perform the same steps on other replica CS in cluster.

can not change disk size anymore, disk parameter shows pipe symbol?
i have vcenter and vsphere 6.7 .. updated today the vcenter to latest build (but not the hosts), restarted and everything went fine.
then i started to resize (extend) disks on some machines which worked nicely.
When i suddenly tried to extend some of another guests disk.. there was a pipe symbol and i could not access the size field on HDD Settings.
i also checked for snapshots, but there werent any. I also checked the other guests on different hosts in the cluster, but now i can not edit a single one.
i can change memory, cpu... but not the hdd size anymore.. like something went wrong in the ui.
i also tried a different browser (usually i use firefox, but then changed to chromium, where i had to freshly log in myself), same strange error.
has anyone an idea what i could do?
here a screenshot of that...
this is a screenshot with a guest with more than one disk (vcenter)
Now i also see a unexpected error in update manager... maybe the update has destroyed ma vcsa?
Re: can not change disk size anymore, disk parameter shows pipe symbol?
I have a customer who reported the same issue recently. The VM's virtual disks neither showed up in vCenter, nor when connected to the hosts directly, and even VMRC showed nothing.
I will try to contact him tomorrow, and ask him for the resolution (in case he got one yet).

Re: Nested ESXi lab, mac learning enabled, slow vMotion
There’s a lot going on: The vMotion Process Under the Hood - VMware vSphere Blog
And usually, the load would be split across 2 separate physical systems - sure there should be no physical network traffic, but everything else is the same.
