I was trying to find a reference to that firmware and cross check against that driver. You might want to see if there is a later firmware available for it. I've seen something like this before when the firmware of the card isn't at a suitably compatible level with the driver generation in use.

Intel 82599 10 Gigabit Dual Port Network Adapter missing after ESXi 6.0 to 6.5u1 upgrade

After upgrading a Cisco UCS server using the Vmware-ESXi-6.5.0-5969303-Custom-Cisco-6.5.1.2.zip image, an Intel 82599 10 Gigabit Dual Port Network Adapter is missing. The 10Gb adapter that is missing happens to be the one that has active ports. The link on the switch is still active and the system sees all (the missing adapter) of the adapters:

lspci -v | grep -A1 -i ethernet

Here are the device contents of /etc/vmware/esx.conf:

/device/00000:131:00.0/vmkname = "vmnic10"

/device/00000:002:00.1/vmkname = "vmnic1"

/device/00000:131:00.1/vmkname = "vmnic11"

/device/00000:004:00.1/vmkname = "vmnic5"

But ESXi is not registering one of them, previous vmnic4 and 5:

Updating to the latest driver does not seem to help:

esxcli software vib update -v "/vmfs/volumes/datastore1/net-ixgbe_4.5.3-1OEM.600.0.0.2494585.vib"

   VIBs Installed: INT_bootbank_net-ixgbe_4.5.3-1OEM.600.0.0.2494585

   VIBs Removed: INT_bootbank_net-ixgbe_4.4.1-1OEM.600.0.0.2159203

Also tried this setting this:

esxcli system settings kernel set --setting="netNetqueueEnabled" --value="FALSE"

Here are the currently installed drivers when querying for ixgbe:

esxcli software vib list | grep ixgbe

net-ixgbe                      4.5.3-1OEM.600.0.0.2494585             INT                 VMwareCertified   2018-01-26

ixgben                         1.4.1-2vmw.650.1.26.5969303            VMW                 VMwareCertified   2018-01-26

The driver that worked with version 6.0 was 3.7.13 but I was unable to find/download it for 6.5u1.

Any troubleshooting tips would be appreciated!

I think you've got something else going on here which is causing that to fail. What vRO auth provider are you using?

Building 1st home lab

Hi,

I am interested in building up a home VMware lab to assist in gaining my VCP6-DCV, and was wondering if the following would be an OK setup as I am planning to build my environment to also be suitable to play around with HA/FT:

x3 - Intel BOXNUC7I3BNH NUC Mini PC

x6 - 8GB DDR4 SODIMM (16 GB pr a ESXi Host)

3x - 16GB USB Memory Stick (for the ESXi O/S)

3x - USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (for FT/HA & VM N/W Links)

3x - USB Type-C to Ethernet Adapter (for Management/vMotion)

1x - 16-port Gigabit Switch

I will be using my home NAS for my VM storage.

Would this be a good set up for my intended plan?

Hardware Version 14: Internet Not Working

A couple of weeks ago I upgraded to Fusion 10 .1.0 on a Macbook Pro Retinea runing MacOS 10.13.2 . Everything had been working OK since.

Earlier today I upgraded to Fusion v10.1.1

In among the upgrade messages was am message recommending I upgrade to from hardware version 10 to hardware version 14 (Virtual Machine -> Settings -> Compatability), so I did.

Eventually I realized I no longer have internet acess. If I click on the network icon in my Windows tray, it says "Unidentified network. No Internet access." I have tried the various "diagnose" and "troubleshoot" options, to no avail.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

DrPlano2

I have tried so many different solutions.  what fixed my own problem is use the FQDN for my vcenter server. Hope this can help some of you.

good luck!

Hello and welcome first of all. Glad to see others interested in home lab building!

All of those things look good (I also have some NUCs), except be cautious about these.

3x - USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (for FT/HA & VM N/W Links)

3x - USB Type-C to Ethernet Adapter (for Management/vMotion)

There is no official support for these types of ethernet adapters, and while there are some community-created/supported ones out there, the egress rates are about half what the theoretical throughput should be (ingress seems unaffected). This isn't to say they can't be useful, but be aware and plan accordingly.

Also, since it looks like you'll be investing a little bit of money here, I'd also recommend beefing up your switch.

1x - 16-port Gigabit Switch

If you really want to experience all that vSphere has to offer, you need a managed switch that's capable of configuring 802.1q. Even better, find an L3 switch which can route as well. eBay is a great place to find this sort of used gear, and if you don't mind some scratches and dents you can get good, used hardware for very cheap. At the least, I'd strongly suggest a managed switch which gives you something that's a little more capable.

There has to be!  I've had many issue with this ver. 7.3.  Using vSphere authentication.

Since a few weeks ago, appliance deployed in Nov. 2017, every time I want to log into the control center I have to reset the vRO authentication (VMware Knowledge Base ) which is a PAIN.

This is the initial page I get from  https://<server>:8283/vco-controlcenter

Re: Hi All! The client needs to block USB and limit downloading function, would standard version be enough or it has to be enterprise version?

You do not have to install the USB redirection agent component. Also, check the GPO bundles for Horizon to control agent and client capabilities.

The standard version is sufficient.

Patch dose not work with Leap 42.3 Kernel 4.4.104-39-default and VMware 12.5.9 build-7535481

It compiles ok then when trying to launch guest OS, which is windows 7, it fails to launch and returns

this error:

"Version mismatch with vmmon module: expecting 309.0, got 308.0.

You have an incorrect version of the 'vmmon' kernel module.

Try reinstalling VMware Workstation."

I remember seeing this issue reported in this thread. In it, a user reports they were able to obtain a hotfix from VMware for vRO that solved the issue. You might raise an SR and see if you can get that hotfix and apply it.

Did you take a snapshot before yum updates? If so, you might want to revert.

If you didn't then it's a guest-related issue at this point and not anything to do with ESXi. The VM is powered on it just won't boot.

I have a RHEL 6.9 in a virtual machine, after I ran the "yum update" command, I can not connect to VM anymore.

In the BIOS it shows that it did not find the disk. Follow the attached log.
